The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
